Ohio Roundtable Applauds SB22 Veto Override as a Victory for Liberty

Columbus (OH) – “The courage of the General Assembly in overriding the Governor’s veto of SB22 is a first step in restoring a constitutional approach to quarantine reform for the next generation” stated Rob Walgate, Vice-President of the Ohio Roundtable. “For the past year, Governor Mike DeWine has been hiding behind a one-hundred year old law that was never intended to be used as a tool to strip Ohioans of their civil rights, shut down churches, weddings and funerals, leave loved ones to die alone, paralyze our hospitals and shut down our schools and much of our economy.

It will take years to recover from the failed leadership of Governor Mike DeWine on COVID-19.

His own party knows this and found the courage to listen to the people of Ohio and restore the General Assembly to the constitutional role of policy creation and oversight in Ohio. It is tragic that not a single Democrat in the General Assembly rose above partisan narratives and voted to free the people of Ohio from this failed policy. Every Ohio voter should note today and be reminded every day of the people who rose up to end the anti-constitutional edicts of Governor Mike DeWine on COVID-19. The health and welfare of every Ohioan is not a partisan issue and never should be so. Using COVID-19 or any health emergency as a one-size-fits-all platform for dictating public health must end in this state and every state.

Hopefully America will see that the spirit of constitutional law and liberty is still alive in Ohio and take courage.”
