Solomon Bell

Detroit, Michigan

In January of 2000, an off-duty police officer pulled his gun in a Detroit casino. He was not chasing after a bad guy or helping someone in danger. He pulled his gun and took his own life – right on the casino floor. Solomon Bell had lost between $15,000 and $20,000 that day.

Friends said they knew Mr. Bell liked to gamble, but they were not aware of it being a problem. In this situation, like many others that involve gambling, when the problem becomes evident, it can be too late.

More studies/stories on the negative effects of gambling.
