It was the morning of June 6, 1944 and the US Army was pinned down under withering gunfire from the Germans on Omaha Beach. An American General from the US 29th infantry division stumbled across a Major Max Schneider of the 5th Battalion, Army Rangers.
“What outfit is this?”, yelled General Cots.
“5th Battalion, Army Rangers sir!” responded the major.
“Well [expletive deleted] Rangers, lead the way!”
And so they did. They fought their way off that bloody beach, and earned their motto:
“Rangers lead the way!”
