Wayne Shepherd: I'm Wayne Shepherd with Dave Zanotti of the American Policy Roundtable. This is The Public Square®. Dave, I'm confused. I think a lot of Americans are. Is health care rationing in our future or not?

David Zanotti: Wayne, we’ve heard all kinds of debating over this issue of rationing. This has all been very painful. Even worse, a matter as personal and critical as our personal health has become a political football. If you ask an honest question you are attacked as being all sorts of nasty things. But there is one question that does not go away.

No matter how you read the bills—the bill, or the outline, or the summary, or whatever, every advocate of a new federal health care plan talks about the absolute necessity of cutting health care spending. There are only three ways to do that—we can spend less by finding a way to make everything cost less, or pay less by treating fewer people, or pay less by giving people less health care.

If you can find a fourth way, please call us today at 1.800.522.Vote. If you can find a way to call reducing health care spending anything other than federal rationing of health care you are not alone. A lot of people are trying that line on for size. If you can figure out a way to make everything in health care automatically cost less, don’t call us, all your members of Congress right away. They haven’t figured that one out yet either.

WS: Get involved on this important issue today. Get the information you need online at aproundtable.org. For Dave Zanotti, I'm Wayne Shepherd, we'll see you next time here on The Public Square®.
